What Is the Difference and Definition of Antiques and Vintage?

Expert Author David M Deighton
Antiques are items that were manufactured over 100 years ago. Used items which are less than 100 years are considered vintage.
This very simple definition can create much controversy among antique dealers, collectors and even wine drinkers! There is only one official definition of antiques in the United-States from US Customs in the Smoot-Hawley act of 1930. It basically says that an antique must be over 100 years old to be called an antique. In Europe and indeed in many other countries around the world there are many more laws governing antiques which help to define the subject. The US lacks such a base and this explains why there are such a variety in quality of "Antique" stores and malls around the country.
An antique store in France (Antiquites) will have to be operated by a state approved professional that has undergone appropriate studies in art, history and valuation. Those that do not have this training sell in stores or fairs called "Brocantes" which must hold a "Livre de Police" or Police Book in which items that are bought and sold are listed to fight against theft. All others can sell at the "puces" or flea markets where no legal mention of authenticity can be maintained.
Such safeguards do not generally exist in the US so the market for antiques is a wild place where dealers can use the word antique to describe items from the 1940s or even sell reproductions under dubious terminology such as Antique Chest circa 1940s. Such terms help increase the value in the eye of the buyer but nonetheless it is only a used chest (unless it was made from a desired designer or manufacturer).
Using the word "Antique" can up the price on a very simple object. Keep this argument in mind, it will offer you more perspective on price and value.
Now vintage is even trickier as there is no institution such as the US customs to define it. Vintage is the term commonly used by people in the antique world to define objects that have some age and are as one says "of a particular vintage". We would define a chest of drawers from the 1930s as being vintage.
Now wine drinkers are not very happy with the use of the word vintage for anything else than defining the age of wines. However common usage has applied the word to the world of antiques and collectibles for over a century now in the US. Quite respectable really.

What You Can Expect From Mediterranean Cruises

When you embark on a Mediterranean cruise then you should be looking forward to the sunny holiday in exotic locations that you're sure to have. The sea air, glorious sunshine and beautiful locations are only the beginning of the whole host of things you have to look forward to on your cruise; you also have an entire ship full of things to do and see. Whether you're interested in shopping, swimming, wining and dining or lying and catching some rays you'll find that you're perfectly well catered to.
Although the ship is certainly magnificent, the real reason you've gone in this cruise is for the chance to visit exotic locations, and a Mediterranean cruise will provide exactly that. You'll likely find yourself visiting cities like Lisbon in Portugal, a beautiful city that nestles right on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. You can ride the trams and funiculars and explore the Castelo de São Jorge and the Aqueduto das Aguas Livres.
Leaving Lisbon you might find yourself travelling on to Spain or Italy. Spain offers the incredible city of Barcelona, somewhere you'll never forget once you've been there, and Palma de Mallorca, the only city on the sun baked island of Mallorca.
Arriving in Italy allows you to visit Florence, the city at the centre of the European renaissance, and discover and explore two more of Italy's most famous city, Rome and Naples. Rome, of course, will give you the opportunity to explore the city at the heart of the Roman Empire and visit the Coliseum, the Pantheon and Palatine Hill. Naples has a raw and vibrant atmosphere unlike many European cities and many a person has simply fallen in love with it during only a brief visit.
From Italy, your cruise may continue on to Cyprus or Greece, or you may begin a return journey and visit the island of Sardinia, famous for its numerous beautiful beaches. Gibraltar is another excellent point for a stop on the return journey, as the island has its own delightful and vibrant culture that is sure to make you feel alive and joyful, even though you are nearing the end of your cruise.

Panasonic DMP-BD60 Blu-Ray Player Review - (A Great Blu-Ray Player at an Affordable Price)

Expert Author Curtis Hoskins
The DMP-BD60 from Panasonic was a very popular Blu-ray Player when it was first released in 2009. With a solid set of features and overall positive reviews from most experts and consumers, the DMP-BD60 remains a popular choice among Blu-ray Players. This very affordable, easy to use player is a Profile 2.0, has PHL Reference Chroma Processor Plus technology and Viera Cast. Simply put, it is capable of producing some of the best image quality of any Blu-ray Player.
Identical to the DMP-BD35, the design of the DMP-BD60 is less sleek and glossy looking than its competitors. The disc loading tray is located in the middle of the front panel. The controls are revealed by a flip down panel on the right side of the player. Behind the flip down panel is a SD Card Slot and a USB Port. The user interface is easy to use and should present no problems navigation the player's features and functions. The no frills design plan seems to emphasis the fact, the DMP-BD60 was not built to look pretty but to get the job done. Which is producing great looking images.
Video Quality: The video quality of the DMP-BD60 is where it excels and out performs many of its competitors. There is a HDMI connection is capable of outputting 1080p High Definition video. Other video connections are Component Video Outputs and Composite Video Output. Connecting via HDMI will give you the best possible image when playing either Blu-rays or DVDs. Panasonic puts equally amount of attention to SD playback as it does to HD playback. Which is nice to have and very rare to find in a Blu-ray Player. So there is no need to get rid of your old DVDs. They will look and sound better than ever before.
The DMP-BD60 is equipped with the UniPhier single chip LSI which provides excellent picture quality. The most potent aspect of the UniPhier is the P4HD. It processes and optimizes over 15 billion pixels per second. And it can support all of the major video elements such as 16 level motion detection, diagonal processing and 1080p DVD up-scaling. It also processes Panasonic's PHL Reference Chroma Processor Plus. Which in turns handles and corrects every single pixel to make sure it produces the most original color reproduction as it possible can.
Audio Quality: The Audio connections for the DMP-BD60 are the HDMI Output, a Optical Digital Output and 2.0-ch Analog Outputs. It has internal audio decoding for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio Essential. Meaning it can decode these audio formats to be played back on most HDMI enabled audio/video receivers. If you choose to have your audio/video receiver do the decoding, bitstream output is supported.
There is a Ethernet Port to connect to the internet located on the back of the player. This will provide you with access to any BD-Live content you can download on selected Blu-ray Movies. A USB storage device or SD Card is required for any download BD-Live content. You can also access Panasonic's Viera Cast (YouTube, Picasa, and Amazon On Demand). Unfortunately, there is no Netflix support, which may not appeal to many consumers.
The DMP-BD60 does not have many extra features compared to other Blu-ray Players. You will have to look elsewhere if you want Wi-Fi connectivity, internal storage memory or Netflix streaming. The DMP-BD60 puts all of its effort into bringing you the best possible Blu-ray image performance. And on that level it does not disappoint.
THE PROS: While lacking in some of the features of its competitors, The Panasonic DMP-BD60, more than makes up for that in its unbelievably clear and crisp images and stable Blu-ray playback. It has Built-in decoding for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio Essential and Viera Cast access to YouTube, Picasa, and Amazon On Demand. It is inexpensive, easy to use, Convenient, Compact and Durable.
THE CONS: Does not have Wi-Fi capability. Does not have Netflix streaming or any internal memory storage. While it does have a Quick Start Mode, its operational speed time is slower when compared to other newer Blu-ray DVD Players.
THE FINAL WORD: Granted it does not have many features that its competitors offer, the Panasonic DMP-BD60 does have excellent image quality and stable playback of Blu-ray discs and DVD discs. No other Blu-ray Player, in this price range, can out perform the DMP-BD60 when it comes to video and audio quailty. -- Price you should look for when purchasing -- Under $190.00

The Legacy of Michael Jordan

Although he has been retired for several years now, Michael Jordan is still widely regarded as the greatest basketball player to ever play the game. His influence was felt not only in the way the game was played, but also in how it was perceived around the world. Ultimately, his excellence at his sport was instrumental in catapulting the popularity of basketball and the National Basketball Association all over the world during the eighties and nineties. Beyond all this, Jordan was also a marketing force and was hands-down the most successfully marketed athlete of his generation and, possibly, all time. In 1999, Jordan was named by ESPN as "the greatest athlete of the 20th century."
Jordan retired from the NBA after 15 seasons, during which he established a number of prestigious records. His 30.12 points per game average is the highest ever in NBA history. He also won six NBA titles with the Chicago Bulls and was the MVP of the NBA Finals every time they claimed the championship. In addition, Jordan has been the NBA's leading scorer for 10 straight seasons and was the league's Most Valuable Player five times. He was also selected to the All-NBA First Team 10 times, the All-Defensive First Team nine times aside from leading the NBA in steals in three years. The Associated Press also ranked him as second only to Babe Ruth as top athlete of the century.
Jordan's wizardry on the basketball court was evident from the very first time he stepped onto an NBA court as a rookie in 1985. He unveiled the full package - a dazzling array of dunks, ferocious defense and the amazing ability to score any time he wanted to. His leaping ability was off the charts and quickly earned him such colorful nicknames as "Air Jordan" and "His Airness." In one playoffs game against the Boston Celtics in 1986, Jordan scored a record 63 points, which prompted the league's then-reigning MVP Larry Bird to proclaim that he was "God disguised as Michael Jordan."
The media has portrayed a number of players as "the next Michael Jordan" upon entering the NBA, including such renowned hoopsters as Grant Hill, Kobe Bryant, Tracy McGrady and Vince Carter, who have all fallen short of their lofty billing. The latest to earn the sobriquet are LeBron James and Dwyane Wade, but they have a long way to go before they can earn the right to be called the next Jordan.

A Quick and Easy Way to Lose Weight Fast by Eating Less More Often

We've all heard that the only real way to lose weight is to consume less calories than we burn. Of course, if you've counted calories, as I have, you'll know what a tedious and time consuming task this can be. It's also highly inconvenient to pull out the scales whenever you want to put something into your mouth -- especially when travelling or dining out with friends! For me, though, a quick and easy way to lose weight fast is the trick of scaling back on my portion sizes and eating five times a day. Why does this work?
The less you eat, the less you need to feel full
Although eating five times a day sounds like a lot, I found that if I ate small portions regularly, I wouldn't get hungry during the day. The added bonus was that my stomach shrank because I wasn't stuffing it three times a day! After switching to smaller, regular meals for a few weeks, I went out to dinner at a restaurant with my family and found that I could barely finish my appetizer without feeling stuffed! Since then, I've found that I actually need very little food to feel full. At first, though, you might be a little hungry between meals until your stomach shrinks, and I found that drinking water or unsweetened tea helped stave it off.
It's easier to keep your diet balanced
Whenever you change something drastically, you need to concentrate on what you are doing. This might sound like a bad thing, but it is not. By focusing on what you are eating at each of your five meals, you can easily ensure that you get a little protein, a little fat, and a little fiber into each serving until it becomes automatic. This will prevent you from mindlessly chomping a candy bar at 3pm out of habit, which is not the quick and easy way to lose weight fast. Instead, when you reach for a fiber-rich apple, you'll be able to stop and wonder where you can get your fat and protein from, and then you'll be able to add some nut butter or yogurt to your snack.
Your metabolism will speed up
Every time you eat something, your metabolism speeds up as your body sorts out the fuel that you have just given it. This is why experts advise against skipping breakfast, the meal that will wake up your metabolism and get it running for the day. However, you can achieve this effect every time you eat something, and by keeping your mini-meals balanced, as discussed above, you can prevent it from slumping. In my case, I find it helpful to eat something every 3 hours. It sounds impossible, but it really does work as a quick and easy way to lose weight fast! My friends always comment that they don't know how I can stay so skinny when I am always eating, but what they don't realize is that I'm never eating a lot at one time.
It's easier to eyeball your portion sizes
It's such a quick and easy way to lose weight fast: five or six meals each consisting of one portion of protein, one portion of fat, and one portion of fiber, and as many vegetables as you like (except for root vegetables). What could be simpler? I know when I say 'portion' that you are busy thinking of your measuring cups in despair, but you can actually tell your portion sizes just by looking at them. Here are a list of single portions and what size they should be:
  • Fruit -- a tennis ball
  • Meat -- a bar of soap or deck of cards
  • Fish -- a checkbook
  • Peanut butter -- a walnut
  • Salad dressing -- a shot glass
  • Butter -- a scrabble tile
  • Cereal -- a baseball
  • Rice, pasta, or potato (and other root vegetables) -- a computer mouse
  • Bread -- 1 slice (of the pre-sliced variety)
  • Hard Cheese -- a ping pong ball or 4 dice in a row
  • Mixed nuts -- a golf ball or a cupped palm
Isn't that easy? I know the portions seem small, but remember that you will be eating every three hours and your stomach is going to adjust to the point where it won't get hungry anymore. You might want to double up your dinner portion in the beginning if you are really hungry at night. Rather than reaching for a tub of ice cream, just fill up on vegetables until your body adjusts. Everyone is starting from a different place, but this is a quick and easy way to lose weight fast that will work for anyone!
If you hate counting calories as much as I do, and if you are looking for a plan that will literally strip the fat from your body. Visit http://www.fastweightl0ss.info for a review of the best options for a quick and easy way to lose weight fast, including the one that helped me finally get back into my wedding dress again!

Designing the Right Website Domain Name

When you're ready to take your business on the web it's imperative that you find the website domain name that's ideal for your business. Occasionally this is done with relative ease, and at other times it can be fairly easier said than done to look for just the fitting name for your business. We are just going to review a few different thoughts that you can be keeping in your mind while you're doing your domain search.
The first thing that you should do is choose the registrar that you believe that you're going to be using for your website domain name registration. I've used many different domain name registrars including goDaddy.com, which I tend to feel is the simplest to use. Making your domain search by making yourself a less frequently used words in your business. For example, if you have an electro-mechanical supply business I think you should have words in your list along the lines of electrical, supply, electrician, power, and so on. You will therefore yearn to apply these words as a start to look for a website domain name that's just right for your business.
If you have a business that has a company name or a corporate name then you might just like to register your business with the business name and a dot com extension. This tends to work on business cards and in other kinds of off-line marketing. If you're planning on trying to acquire some traffic from the search engines chances are you'll want to go a little more precise with your keywords that relay to your business. You will then build your web site around these precise key words as a way to drive some free search engine traffic to your site.
In addition there are various different extensions that are available for example dot com, dot net, dot org and several others. The most popular, and the one that you really ought to try to go for first, is a dot com of course. It is virtually understood that when you give someone a web site address, it is likely to end in dot com. If you get a dot net or a dot org web site address you will tend to find yourself explaining the fact that it is not a dot com more than you probably would like to do so.
The plan is spending some time and really digging for the ideal website domain name for your business. There are tens of thousands of domain names registered every single day and it's getting harder and harder to search for one that is not already taken. If you keep running into this wall, never get discouraged, there are still several domain names obtainable and better suited for any business. Last, but not least make sure that you use your imagination. If you find yourself stuck, ask a pal for some recommendations. Picking a domain name is key for the potential of your business, so take your time and acquire the best one that you can.
